Admission is based solely on invitation from the Artistic Director and School Director. Dancers who aspire to join this program must attend the Summer Intensive for a minimum of the first 4 weeks of the 2022 program, though 6 weeks is recommended. OBT2 marked its first official year with the 2016/17 season.

The OBT2 program is a select group of dancers at the top level of the school who may also work with OBT’s professional company. Students placed in Level 6 or 6X for OBT School’s Summer Intensive will be considered for OBT2. Jones currently resides in Minneapolis and is the school director of The Minnesota Dance Theatre & School. In 2018, he became school director of the School of Ballet Arizona. In 2013, he was appointed school director of the Oregon Ballet Theatre School.

In 2010, he joined the faculty of the Palucca Hochschule für Tanz Dresden in Dresden, Germany, as a professor for classical ballet. After his performing career, he graduated from New York University and eventually became director of The Huntington Ballet Theatre in Long Island, New York, and worked as an acquisitions associate at the Frick Collection in New York City. At PNB, he performed a broad repertory that included the works of Marius Petipa, George Balanchine, Sir Antony Tudor, August Bournonville, Glen Tetley, and Kent Stowell, among others. He joined Seattle’s Pacific Northwest Ballet in 1990 and was promoted to soloist in 1993.

Jones began his early ballet studies at the Minnesota Dance Theatre & School under the direction of Loyce Houlton, followed by professional training at the National Ballet School in Toronto, and ultimately The School of American Ballet, in New York, where he studied on full scholarship under Stanley Williams, Andrei Kramarevsky, and Richard Rapp.

The faculty includes OBT School’s year-round professional faculty, members of Oregon Ballet Theatre’s artistic staff, dancers from Oregon Ballet Theatre, as well as various guest teachers. Classes such as Pilates, yoga, and strength training are also a part of the summer curriculum as are seminars such as makeup, health and nutrition and dance history. It features classes in ballet technique, men’s technique, pointe, variations, repertory, character, modern/contemporary, and related dance styles. The Summer Intensive is a full-day program for students ages 12 and older by audition only.
